Frequently asked questions

Short answers without marketing talk, in four parts. Click a question to expand the answer. If your question is missing, write to us. We'll add it here.

Part 01

The game

What it is, where it runs, and what's next.

What is Island?

A game set on an island: a helicopter drops you off, and you explore the island alone in story mode or with up to ten people in co-op. There are voiced characters, a phone with apps, weapons, a backpack, hunger, and thirst. Island is a prototype and still changing.

Play in the browser

What platforms does the game run on?

In the browser on your computer and on mobile, as an app for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The app fetches updates on its own at launch. The main project is being built in Unity and hasn't been released yet.

Go to download

How often do updates come out?

Often, and irregularly. What's currently being built is listed with names and timestamps on the Current Work page. We don't announce a date for a finished version.

Part 02

Trying it out and downloading

In the browser, as an app, and what the Unity version is.

Can I try Island before I buy it?

Yes. The browser prototype runs without an account and without a download. Redeeming your license key in the game is still in development; until then, the key stays in your account.

Open Island

What hardware do I need?

A current browser with WebGL is enough. Tested system requirements for the Unity version will follow once it's released.

Part 03

Purchase, account, and returns

Pay once, no subscription. And what applies if you change your mind.

What does the game cost?

Three packages, each a one-time payment: Singleplayer with story mode €39.99, Multiplayer €19.99 (no story mode), both together €49.99. No subscription. If you already own one package, you can just add the other.

Do I need an account?

Not to play in the browser. You can buy with an account or as a guest by email; if you log in later with the same address, the purchase lands in your account. That's where your key, invoice, and download live.

Can I return the game?

For digital content, the right of withdrawal ends once you expressly agree to immediate performance and your key has been issued. Before that, you can withdraw within fourteen days. Just send us an email to do so.

Part 04

Technical details and contact

What stays local, what's still missing, and where to report bugs.

Are my saves stored?

In singleplayer, your save lives in your browser or on your device. In co-op, it lives online on the Island server. While the game is a prototype, an old save can become unusable after an update.

Is there gamepad support?

Not right now. Keyboard and mouse are tested: W, A, S, D, Shift, M for the map, P for the phone, 1 to 5 for weapons. On mobile, arrow buttons appear on screen.

How can I reach you?

Write to info@shitboxsimulator.com or use the contact page. Bug reports are welcome. Let us know which operating system and browser you're using, and what you were doing when it broke.
